What is a Buddy List?
A Poker Buddy List is one of the easiest and most useful poker software components. There are really two aspects to the buddy list. The first is to keep track of your friends when they are playing online (or the big gun pros if you want to watch and learn!). And yeah, that’s fun. But remember you’re trying to make big bucks playing online poker. The true powers of Buddy Lists allow you to keep track of the weak “fish” in the big poker sea. When you come across players who are statistically on the losing end more often than the winning, quickly add them as a buddy.
The good news about buddy lists is that pretty well all online poker sites allow buddy lists. Many will have their own software or free downloadable options. For the players who want to win big, there’s some really, really good products/services out there that maximize buddy list capabilities.

I’ve heard people who intentionally log on into rooms at certain times of the day on certain nights to catch their “buddies” playing. Usually this means a Saturday night after midnight in their time zone when they may have been drinking a bit and playing pretty loose. Easy money. I’ve found players who repeatedly go “all-in” if they’ve been out of a few hands just because their impatient and antsy.
The best buddy list programs allow you to make notes and descriptions so you know exactly who each buddy is and their “features”. Some pro players compile a list of 200+ weak players and ONLY ever play when they’re playing.
Oh, and remember to find patterns – some players just may have a bad night but are actually good players. I’ve seen people make this mistake and rely too heavily on notes from one night at the table. Usually, lower stakes games are easier to scope out weaker players (people play looser when it’s only a few hundred bucks’ tops).
