Could You Play Online Poker For A Living?

Play Online Poker For A LivingIf you’re that much of a poker enthusiast, you have to admit it, one of your lifelong dreams is surely to play poker for a living. Come to think of it, almost everyone in this entire world has a similar dream. Find a job that will pay you for doing the thing that you love most and have fun while doing it. It’s not that much different, wanting to play poker for a living. Is it really possible to live off poker, though? More specifically, would it be possible to earn a living playing online poker?

If we were to believe the countless stories of people who are actually doing it, then yes it is possible. So what does it take to become a professional online poker player? Much like most other things, you need a bit of money to start your online poker career. Even though making money out of nothing is an attractive notion, it simply isn’t the case with most things. You need money to make money. With online poker, though, you don’t need that much money to begin with. A few hundred dollars or even less will be enough to start off your career. You need this to be able to afford the buy-ins and online casino fees.

The success of your online poker career will then depend on your skills as a poker player. I’ve tackled these skills in more detail in other posts before, and will continue to add to them, but you need to know that it’s imperative you at least have the basic skills and strategies to play a solid game. There’s no point in launching a career playing online poker if your skills are rusty or if you’re just a novice player. If that’s the case, then it’s more advisable to sharpen and hone your skills with free games or low-cost games first.

Are there any advantages to playing online poker for a living? Of course! Aside from the fact that you are earning money for playing poker, there are other “asides” that make it all worthwhile. For one thing, you need not play poker 24 hours a day to make money. In fact, professional online poker players attest to the fact that they play for several hours a day and make use of their remaining hours in other profitable ventures. If you have other talents or skills, you can work a day job or set up your own small business.

Take Mark Maxwell as an example. He graduated from a top university in the UK and plays online poker for a living. Aside from this though, he has some consultancy projects. He says that playing poker for a living allows him to earn more money on the side and enjoy other activities for his leisure time. More so, he promotes playing online poker over casino poker for people like him who do not have a poker face. Body language, which is essential to casino poker, is not relevant in online poker.

So for those of you who are really good at online poker, why not make a go of it? Who knows, you just might earn enough and be able to quit your day job and live your dream too.
