What Are Sit And Go Poker Tournaments?

Sit and Go Poker TournamentsSit and Go tournaments have become one of the most popular ways of playing Texas Hold ‘Em Poker today. Both offline and online, Sit and Go tournaments are played by countless players. So what exactly is a Sit and Go poker tournament? It’s basically just the same as any other poker tournament except that it’s like playing at the final table. No more elimination rounds – just the round that counts.

Sit and Go tournaments might also be single table or multi table and these days there’s an emerging form of Sit and Go tournament online that’s proving ever more popular. They call them turbo Sit and Go tournaments. Obviously, as the name suggests, these Sit and Go tournaments are conducted much faster. Case in point – blinds go up more often than in normal tournaments, so turbo Sit and Go tournaments ask a lot more of the player in terms of skill.

The buy in fees are normally lower in Sit and Go tournaments too. That’s one of the main reasons why joining a Sit and Go tournament – especially online – can be difficult at times. People scramble left, right and center to get a seat at the table.

Another thing that’s different with Sit and Go tournaments is that you have to be able to adjust to changing conditions very quickly. In contrast to normal Texas Hold ‘Em tournaments, Sit and Go tournaments really go by quickly. Players at the table change much more quickly. Not only that, as the blinds go up quickly as well, you have to be able to keep up with them. So as the game goes on, you must be able to adjust your playing style to be able to deal with the changes in game play. Otherwise, you won’t even be able to meet the blinds.

You need to learn how to deal with aggressive players much more in Sit and Go tournaments too. These players do make the tournament exciting and challenging, but you have to meet their challenges and beat them. Their playing style makes more of an impact in Sit and Go tournaments than in normal tournaments, so you need to be able to make your own plays against them.

Knowing how to win a heads-up play is also very important in Sit and Go’s. Heads-up play is when you play against another player one-on-one at the end of the game. Knowing how to deal with this situation will determine whether you WIN the tournament or you end up in 2nd place. Of course, winning is so much better and that should be enough incentive for you to tighten up your game.

In heads-up play, you need to turn your aggressiveness up a notch from your usual level of play. Even if you tend to be more on the cautious side, think about it – you’re at the final moment. If you stick to your cautious play, you may win but you’ll probably end up being eaten alive by the other player. On the other hand, if you change tactics a little bit and be more aggressive, you have a better chance of winning. If you lose, you’ll still be in 2nd place. So get on out there and show them what you’ve got…
