Video Poker Tips – Getting Started
Video poker is admittedly one of the most attractive features in many casinos – both online and offline. Who can easily resist all those brightly colored flashing lights and the large signs predicting a WIN? Yet for those of us who have actually given in to the video poker machine’s allure, we know that the promise of the bright lights is not all that we expected it to be. Then again, I would have to admit that the chance of winning and the actual losing is part of video poker’s image. It just seems to keep on giving you enough to make you want to do it all over again.
With video poker – just like any other gambling machine – it’s not all about losing, though. As I talked about in a previous post, video poker may have a lot of luck factored in yet there is still some skill involved. You just have to know how to play this game in order to get that win you have been yearning for. So here are a few points to think about for the next time that you hear that video poker machine call your name.
Of course you play regular poker, right? So bear in mind the basic things that you pay attention to when playing regular poker. You look your cards through carefully. You have a set strategy for whatever hand you are dealt. You are also flexible enough to change this plan when you do not get what you expect. The same thing should apply when you play video poker. You should take your time with each hand. Remember, you are playing with a machine, not people. As such, don’t feel that you have to hurry up and make your moves. I don’t think that a video poker machine exists with a time limit anyway.
Make use of free online video poker machines. In fact, utilize them to the fullest! Practice makes perfect, as they say. So instead of going straight to a real life casino – where you will definitely spend real life money – go online first and sharpen your video poker skills. Do this until you feel confident enough to stake your hard earned money.
When playing for real coins, try to play with maximum coins. That would mean bigger payouts of course. Then again, if you want to use less coins, find a machine that has a lower maximum coin limit. Playing with less coins does not necessarily mean that you can play longer. So it’s better to check the payout ratio. Thus, take a look around first. Don’t be so hasty and eager and just grab the first free video poker machine. I understand how excited you may be to play, but think in terms of the long run. Look for the video poker machine with the best payout to coin ratio.
One last note, before you set foot in a casino, be sensible and determine just how much you will spend on a video poker machine. Set a limit and stick to it. There’s always another day
