Biography:
Harrington used to be a champion backgammon player and bankruptcy lawyer. When he was at Suffolk University he was part of a MIT team that cheated at roulette. He also played poker against Harvard University students Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Some of his other early poker experience came from the Mayfair Club in the mid-80's where he played with Howard Lederer and Erik Seidel.
Harrington's biggest win came with the 1995 World Series of Poker main event, netting him $1 million. As of 2004, he has won nearly $3.6 million in tournament play and has 2 WSOP bracelets.
Harrington has always been known as a very tight player. When he reached the final table in the 1995 WSOP, nobody expected him to win because he rarely takes risks. Players familiar with Harrington know this and will frequently fold if he makes a large bet. His conservative play, however, does allow him to end up at many final tables of larger events, including the 2003 WSOP (839 players) and the 2004 WSOP (2576 players), where he won over $2 million for finishing 3rd and 4th, respectively. As a joke, he is sometimes called "Action Dan".
Although Harrington has been successful at professional poker, he also works in real estate and the stock market.
