VH1 Classic Rock’n Roll Celebrity Poker Tournament
With all that’s going on in the poker world, you wouldn’t think that a new poker tournament would be in the works, would you? You couldn’t be more wrong, however. Here is a news clip from Pokerpages.com, giving you the details of a new poker tournament that holds much promise. After reading this one, my interest was kinda peaked. I don’t know about you, but I think this one is going to be so much fun!
A new tournament called VH1 Classic Rock’n Roll Celebrity Poker Tournament promises entertainment as well as fundraising for a number of charities.
Sponsors VH1 and UltimateBet have assembled some classic rock’n roll artists as well as several established heavy metal artists, including: Sully Erna from Godsmak (an experienced poker player in his own right), Vinnie Paul from Pantera, Damageplan, Scott Ian from Anthrax, Ace Frehley formerly from KISS, and the rock’n roll legend, Dusty Hill, from ZZTop.
Joining the music legends are three poker players who battled their way to get to the table. Two skilled online players, Ian Hamilton and Rob Cross, won their seats and a trip to Vegas to compete in the VH1 Tourney by beating 10,000 other players at sponsor UltimateBet’s site. Steve Thomas won a third seat through live play at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino.
All competitors will play to win money for a charity of their choice, where a donation will be made in the name of the player. These charities include: Vinny Paul (The National Children Cancer Society), Ace Frehley (The Alzheimer Foundation of America), Dusty Hill (Hepatitis Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine), Sully Erna (Tikkanen Fund, Community Alliance for Teen Safety), Scott Ian (LifeBeat, Incorporated), Ian Hamilton (Nevada Cancer Institute), Robb Cross (Doctors without Borders) and Steve Thomas (TenderLife).
The winner of the overall VH1 Celebrity Poker Tournament will also get a free buy-in to the UltimateBet Poker Classic held in Aruba next year.Ten-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Helmuth will host the VH1 Classic Rock ‘n Roll Celebrity Poker Tournament. And Matt Savage will be the event’s Tournament Director. So the event is in extremely capable hands.
The event also features a ‘tournament within a tournament’. After players are knocked out of the regular tournament, they visit the Green Room where poker stars Phil “The Unabomber” Laak and Antonio “The Magician” Esfandiari will give tips and conduct interviews. The players will then compete in head’s up action in the Green Room, and the winner of which will get a free cruise to Alaska.
So where and when can we poker fans catch some piece of the action? Of course, since VH1 is the sponsor, the TV station of the same name will be host to the tournament. The VH1 Classic Rock’n Roll Celebrity Poker Tournament will debut on the 14th of this month at 10 in the evening EST. That’s a Wednesday, if you were wondering. As for me, I am going to make sure that I will be home way before that time at the middle of next week.
