Asian Poker Classic
Poker is indeed making the news all over the world these days. Despite the bans and restrictive legislation in different parts of the world – or perhaps because of this – huge poker tournaments are starting to pop up in other parts. One of the bigger poker tournaments that is about to make its debut is the Asian Poker Classic. For those of you in this area, you might have heard of it already.
The Asian Poker Classic is actually going to be held in India, the first of its kind. The fact that this will be the first major professional poker tournament in India is stirring up a lot of attention and interest, not only in the local area but in various places as well. It is set to begin this March, from the 1st to the 5th. Actually, the satellites have been on going since August of last year already. Though dubbed the “Asian” Poker Classic, the poker players involved are by no means limited to Asia. In fact, great poker players from all over the world are part of the tournament as well.
With any poker tournament – or any gambling endeavor for that matter – the prize is always of interest, both to participants and spectators. For the Asian Poker Classic, a whopping 1 million dollars (US) will be at stake in March. The main tournament will be held at Goa, a very famous place in India. This fact in itself is a good point of attraction for many.
Goa is also known as “The Pearl of Orient” and is located in western India, in the coastal belt known as Konkan. Long acknowledged as one of the best places to go for an “exotic” experience, Goa is a paradise of renown. From majestic scenery to wondrous beaches to historical sites, Goa has a lot to offer its visitors. Indeed, you probably wouldn’t be able to find a reason not to want to go to Goa. Couple that with the chance to win a million dollars and I bet you would just give anything to be part of it all.
Personally, I think this is a great thing for the poker world. With the setbacks that this game has suffered since last year, it is such a comfort and inspiring thing to hear of poker being patronized in other parts of the world. For me, it just goes to show that if an endeavor really has something good to it, then it cannot be boxed in and restricted as has been done (and probably still being done) to poker at present.
Though I am definitely not part of this event I am crossing my fingers for the Asian Poker Classic. I hope that there will be some way to witness this great event when the time comes. Lucky guys in India, though – or anywhere near – you can probably pop in there if you can afford it. In any case, here’s to hoping that the initiative to start these kinds of tournaments will be seen more.
